00:16 Have you been called by God? Most people involved in institutional Christianity consider ‘called by God’ to mean you have a specific task or ministry to do for God.
What if there was a higher calling? The traditional Christian system doesn’t even know about it!
What is the biggest obstacle to knowing the higher calling”? SIN FOCUS. We are told man is mired in sin and apart from doing something or saying something we are doomed to hell. Seriously? Is that GOOD NEWS? No. That’s awful news. What an affront to God’s goodness and kind intention manifested in Jesus Incarnate.
01:04 Paul gives this sobering warning – “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Sadly, religiosity is not focused on Jesus Christ and His finished work. That’s why they can’t see humanity’s higher calling.
01:34 God is VERY INTENTIONAL WHEN IT COMES TO US. He knows exactly who He made us to be and has NEVER CHANGED HIS MIND. What God sees IN US is always EXACTLY WHO HE INTENDED! We get hung up on behavior, God is FIXATED ON OUR BEING!
01:55 Here’s our HIGHER CALLING.
‘God has saved us and called (GR summoned, invited, named) us with a holy (GR unlike, other than) calling. This calling is not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus BEFORE TIME BEGAN.’ That’s amazing!
Okay, purpose in the Greek is a setting forth, i.e. intention. GR grace - disposed to willingly and eagerly, it’s favorable towards, it’s leaning towards for someone for their benefit
Note, “called with a holy calling” is not about certain people being called. The only condition is IN JESUS. All are in Jesus thus all are ‘called with a holy calling’! Now religion says you have to ask Jesus in, that is not scriptural.
03:07 Being IN JESUS enables understanding to know God. John writes,
‘We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding (GR "thorough reasoning," incorporates both sides of a matter to reach a meaningful personal conclusion) that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ, Who is the true God and eternal life.’ That’s pretty clear about IN!
03:51 If we keep our nose stuck in the Bible trying to know God, we won’t know Him! Only Jesus, the Son of God gives us understanding to know God. Remember when Jesus told the Pharisees (who were sure they knew God) – “You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, the scriptures testify of Me, but you’re not will to come to Me that may have life.”
04:16 If the Jesus you know makes you feel lack, guilty, must do more, judge others – then you do not know Jesus. YOU KNOW RELIGION!
If the Jesus you know means keep praying for revival, for God to come down, for God to show up in the service, for God to save the world – then YOU KNOW RELIGION.
04:39 How about the word CHOSE when it comes to God’s intentionality? Religion teaches that you must choose God if you want eternal life. That isn’t even scriptural!
Chose in the Greek means to pick out for myself, select by a highly deliberate choice with a definite outcome.
05:01 Jesus said, “I chose you, you didn’t choose Me.”
And Paul wrote, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we be holy and blameless, which means faultless/unblemished, before Him.
Look at that we had nothing to do with being chosen!
05:23 We are deliberately CHOSEN called with a HOLY calling and are BLAMELESS!
Oh, never forget ‘The gifts and calling of God are IRREVOCABLE!’ His calling and choosing can’t be changed.
May you see how intentional God is about you. He is purposeful in freely giving you everything pertaining to life and godliness.
