E48  What is the meaning of NEW in the Bible. When Jesus talked about new wineskins and new wine He was using two different new words from the Greek. When you understand the meanings and Jesus' prophetic implications you will be in wonder! The Lord reminded me of a  vision from 1988. That's a long time ago but He sure made it relevant to today and Jesus' finished work.

Hey there! Thanks for joining me, Nancy Teague, on crazy Good God Podcast.

00:15   Being it's a brand new year let's talk about new. Have you ever used or heard – “What's new?” I have, bet many of you have too. But, new with the Lord is not about the latest happening in someone's life. God's new is all about you and who you really are.

00:34   So what does new mean in the Bible? Old Testament, new in Hebrew is chadash. It means new, fresh, new thing.

In Isaiah. “Behold, I will do a new thing now. It will spring forth, shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” In Ezekiel “And I will give them singleness of heart, and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their weighty, empty, stony heart, and give them a tender, responsive heart.

01:10   New Testament has 2 words for new – kainos  means new in quality a new kind, unprecedented, uncommon, unheard of, totally fresh, not found exactly like this before, is superior to what was before. And the other word, neos - new on the scene, suggests something ‘new in time’, what was not there before including what is recently discovered.

01:39   Jesus used both neos and kainos  in His parable about wine and wineskins when talking to his disciples and the Pharisees, who were judging up a storm at that time.

Here's what Jesus said, “And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins. On top of this, no one after drinking old wine wants new for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’”

02:17   OK, here's some key Greek words. No one pours new wine neos ‘new in time’ wine into old (GR - ancient, worn out) wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins. Instead, new wine neos ‘new in time’ is poured into new wineskins,  kainos wineskins - new in quality, unprecedented, uncommon, unheard of, totally fresh. And no one after drinking/imbibing (literally or figuratively, in the Greek) old wine (ancient, worse for the wear, worn out) wants (desires, wishes, wills) new neos. For he said, ‘Well, the old (the ancient, no longer new, worn out) is good enough (Greek useful, serviceable, productive suitable). Hmm? Nothing like settling for less.

03:13   Now wine is a picture of party joy fun. Remember Jesus's first miracle? They ran out of wine at the wedding feast and Jesus said to fill 6 water pots of stone that were used for hand washing purification, fill them to the brim with water. When the master of the feast tasted the water turned into wine he was astonished he went to the bridegroom, and said, “Good wine is set out at the start, then when the guests are drunk, the inferior is served. But you have kept the good (Greek beautiful worthy, honorable noble praise worthy wine until now! Now, truly, Jesus did a miracle that was an indication of amazing coming.

04:04   To my surprise, while pondering new. The Lord reminded me of a vision I had in 1988. The vision in bed still awake, then all of a sudden I saw two objects I'd never had a vision before. This was a huge surprise. I totally misinterpreted it at the time, which I will share some time as it's tied to a big lesson in my life. So, here's 35 years later and the Lord shows me that it ties into Jesus's finished work.

04:38   Here's the vision. On the left I saw what looked like a withered up dry piece of leather. Reddish brownish color, lifeless. On the right side was a softly beating, translucent shape, formed like a heart. Beautiful, full of life, happy, tender, vulnerable, a luminous, pearl-like color. It was captivating and these pictures are still vivid after all these years.

05:09   The heart in the vision was truly kainos - a new kind, unprecedented, uncommon, unheard of, totally fresh, not found exactly like this before. And the dry withered up piece of leather in the vision - it's like the old wineskin. It is a picture of our fallen Adamic nature, a picture of our false identity as a ‘no good sinner’.

05:32   You know, we truly are Jesus's joy and that's why he endured the cross. He restored us to our true identity through his death and resurrection. He abolished in his flesh the enmity - the law, like the old wineskin, and in his resurrection he made one new kainos  man - a new kind, unprecedented, unheard of, totally fresh. I submit to you - we are the new wineskins. Jesus did it. It is finished!.

06:03   The Pharisees of old and even today can be so stuck enjoying their old wine. It's good enough. They're comfortable in their religious traditions. Why change? Their self-righteousness makes it easy to judge others as they focus on their sin. But Jesus will not pour himself, the New Wine of joy and delight, in old wineskin, the old man. Jesus dealt a death blow to our old man. Nothing but the best for his redeemed ones and even those that are still blind to his wondrous finished work that restored their true identity.

06:42   Remember, one died for all, therefore all died. When he rose all rose with him - justified, (made righteous). By that happening he made one new man. You were made for new. You are new already in Him. Ask for revelation of that. May you embrace your kainos being with gusto and delight! Enter into His effusive joyful wine for you and every one.

Until next Wednesday, Bliss to you and never forget God is absolutely crazy about you.
